Filming

I've started filming and I have a lot of footage. I have the main footage, now I just need my transition footage. The flip cams did run out of battery while I was in the middle of an interview, but luckily I managed to get my hands on another flip cam at that time. Editing everything and placing it together is probably going to be the most stressful part of this project, but I'm up to this challenge.

Stories

I've been sending out emails and trying to get the word out there. Since you guys know that I'm making a documentary on overcoming the obstacles of life, please get in contact with me if you want your story heard. I need stories so I would appreciate your help. Get in contact with me through email, phone, facebook, or in person. I plan on filming next week so contact me as soon as possible. Thanks.

From Story to Documentary

I am now making a documentary type film instead of it being a fictional story. I am planning on interviewing people who have overcome great obstacles in their lives. It will be easier to send the message I want to send with a documentary because it will be more real than just a narrative.

People will be more likely to believe something that is a true story instead of something that's made up. They might be all into the fictional movie, but in the end they'll still say that it's not real so it's not as impacting. If it's something real, odds are they will be more affected by it and start to face obstacles themselves.

When I watch movies, even if they say based on a true story, I find it difficult to believe most of it because I knows how in the movie business they embellish small details to make a great story. It's difficult to believe movies, but it's pretty easy to believe documentaries because they are in fact real.

Development

I want to thank you guys for the feedback. It has helped a lot and there has been progress made in the script. The characters just started to develop by themselves and everything has started to come together. There is some work left to be done, but the overall story is there.

I now see that the problem is that I will make a short movie. Being that it will be short, it's kind of hard to try to make a script for it because it feel like I'm just bunching scenes up. It's going to be a challenge to film a good short movie that has some actual meaning and that it doesn't look like I tried to fit every aspect I want into it.

But it's good that I became aware of the problem because now it's easier to look for solutions. And the feedback I've been receiving has helped me notice when I fall into overcrowding a scene and such.

Script Script Script!

What I don't understand is why I can't get the script down. The story is there, but I can't seem to make my characters real. The dialogue is a tricky thing to do. I feel pressure to make these characters perfect so I'm having a hard time deciding the little details of my story. I'm a person who notices small details which is why I can't get the characters just right. It's like there's an element missing in them. Right now I am trying to figure out the lives of these characters. In other news, I have been using a program called Celtx, which helps me a lot in my attempted script writing. Anyone who wants to write a script, make a storyboard, or something of the sort should check this program out.

Details

So I have to find actors for my movie. People that will actually have a lot of time that are willing to memorize their lines and put in the hard work that is necessary. At the moment, I am working on the script for the movie. I admit it will be a challenge to have a script that is well organized and that can be made into a movie. But I'm pretty sure with the help of Ford, Carlton, Liz, and Dale I will be able to produce a script that won't cease to impress.
